Our dulcimers do not have the sustain of a slow-bowed fiddle. How can we make our melodies and lead lines flow with ease and grace? Let's figure it out using a beautiful melody or two.
3:00 - 4:30 pm - Mountain Dulcimer - Hammers & Pulls, intermediate
Starting tuning _Dad or Dadd
These left hand ornaments lend grace, bounce and expression to our music. We’ll combine tunes and exercises to make these techniques manageable, and use them in a tune or two.

Jennifer Mylod - Irish Fiddle
Workshops: 8:55 - 10:25 am - All Levels. Bring your fiddle, and learn to play the way it has been taught for hundreds of years! By ear! Tunes will be presented in small phrases until the student grasps it, building the tune until the entire tune is learned. Embellishments will be shown to present more of a challenge for advanced students. Written music may be provided, but it will only be used as a guide line for grasping the basic tune.
Phil Mylod - Irish - Tin Whistle
1:15 - 2:45 pm and 3:00 - 4:30 PM - All levels. Students must bring a D whistle. Learn a few Irish tunes the old fashioned Irish way! Adding embellishments to the tune will also be shown for the more advanced students.

10:45 - 12:15 PM - Playing it the “Old Timey Way”
This workshop is for Intermediate to Intermediate/Advanced Dulcimer Players that want to think outside of the box so to speak. The theme will concentrate on 1) learning how to “play by ear” without tablature/written music score, 2) playing fiddle tunes up tempo, 3) learning a medley of tunes (three in a row), and if we have time 4) playing tunes learned in one key over to a different key (i.e. Key of D over to Key of A).
Participants should bring along a “portable” recording device (i.e. tape deck, i-Pod, I-River (MP3 recorder) as a means of capturing the tunes and concepts that will be practiced. Additionally, all participants must bring along a dulcimer capo. Come with your instrument ready to go and tuned to the Mixolydian Key of D (“D–A-D”).

Learn new chords & chord voicings to make your playing prettier & more interesting.
3:00 - 4:30 pm - Mandolin - beginning - We'll use a few familiar tunes to learn some keys & scales,then a less familiar tune to learn a new way of reading music on the mandolin.
Dave Field - "Doctor" Dulcimer and recipient of the 1st "Lifetime Achievement . . .so far" award.
Dave will be available to help you take the dulcimer you had hiding under the bed and get it ready to play. He will be happy to help you string, tune it or talk about other adjustments or repairs you may need. (Strings will be available for purchase on site at our little "music store".
